Adipex-P® (phentermine) is a weight loss medication that is available by prescription. It is approved for short-term use only. Although the official name of this product is "Adipex-P" (the P stands for phentermine), many people refer to this drug as simply "Adipex."
Adipex is available in both tablet and capsule form.

Adipex works by stimulating a brain area called hypothalamus gland, which controls functions like body temperature, amount of sleep and appetite. It affects certain neurotransmitters also. These neurotransmitters are responsible for the communication between the brain cells. Adipex reduces the level of serotonin in the brain and gives a feeling of satiety to the person. This prevents him from eating again and again unnecessarily, which causes weight loss.

The usual dose is 1 capsule or tablet a day, taken before breakfast or up to 2 hours after breakfast. Some people need only half a tablet each day. Others may find it more effective to take half a tablet twice daily.
Avoid taking Adipex late at night or just before bed as this may result in insomnia. Adipex is not recommended for use in children under 16 years of age.
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medication. An overdose of Adipex can be fatal.
Symptoms of a Adipex overdose may include confusion, hallucinations, feeling restless or aggressive, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, irregular heartbeat, tremors, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, feeling light-headed, fainting, or seizure (convulsions).
